SUCKS! Book #1 of The Draqual Vampyre Chronicles by William Maltese ~ A one-thousand year old, handsome, and sexy vampyre's much-in-demand blood-splattered fashion-line is strutted by blood-splattered models on blood-splattered runways in the blood-splattered abattoirs, slaughter houses, and butcher shops of the world ... as his own blood-line makes Vladymyr Draqual beloved and hated by the most powerful members of his kind.

THIS NIGHT, a group of particularly hunky and sweaty young men lug a rectangular altar-like blue stone, finely worked to glossy smoothness on all sides, into an obviously predetermined position within the monument's open-air inner sanctum, and then strap one of their own, docilely complicit, deliciously naked, and face-up, to it. All of which, strangely, provides Sargash with the undeniable impulse to leave not only his observation point but to leave the island once and for all while his getting out is still an option (if it still is one). In that, he stays, waits, unable to control his wondering as to what will now happen. He can no longer use as an excuse to stay — nor has he been able to for a very long time — that he remains to discover the secret of the blue dye, because he's discovered that long ago. He's watched the locals gather the seeds of the responsible plant (not woad, not indigo), seen those seeds chewed and spit into bowls of fermenting wild-grain mash; the latter, in two days time, converts to sludge of deeply-hued luxurious blue. He's gathered enough seeds of his own to demonstration the how of blue conjuration, plus provide for an initial seed crop for planting in some Draqual Family garden. He needs only take his prize home, the prodigal son returned with something valuable to show for his absence to make up for his neglect of vampires who, while he was gone, have partitioned to die, under ministrations of the Draqual Five, but have been prevented from doing so because of Sargash having absented himself from the necessary quorum. When the staked-out naked, virile, and attractively blue-tattooed young man remains in place, all alone, within the monument, into a second night, as if he specifically awaits Sargash, the vampire is really afraid. He knows of people who make gods and goddesses of denizens of their nights, this possibly a case in point, but he's not convinced. He gathers up seeds and leather-thong ties to his waist the sack that contains them. He walks to, and stands out on, the very lip of the white-chalk cliff above the sea separating him from family and friends. He lifts his arms and hears the whoosh of leathery morphed batwings. He falls into the blackness of the void, surprised when an updraft immediately catches him and carries him high … higher … to where he can see the land mass on the other side of the black-watered channel. He doesn't need additional altitude to make the crossing safely, but he rides the rare updraft, anyway, in a helix that momentarily turns him in the direction of the monument on the plain … of the naked and attractive young man (in offering to Sargash?) tied to that blue altar … of the temptation of resin-flavored blood which, after this night, might never again be Sargash's for the taking. He succumbs to his growing desire to see plain, the monument, the human offering, close up and personal."

A LOVE PROFANE … …unnatural … obscene … taboo … forbidden … condemned … … between Vlad Draqual, vampyre, and Roman Bonton, vampire killer …. …convention defied! Blood shed! Disaster and heart-break in the making?
Excerpt from BLOOD ON THE BIAS,

I scraped his tanned neck with my needle-sharp fangs, careful not to break the skin. I closed my lips over his vulnerable jugular and felt the tempting pulse of his life’s blood beckoning to me. I kissed that very spot and made move to get up, leave him, and, thus, avoid all temptation, as well as the sun soon to flood his bedroom.

He reached out, forcefully pulled me back down with and over him, our hard masculine bodies aligned in full dual nakedness. His large and powerful hands ran their fingers up my arms, over my cheeks, into my hair, at each of my temples, to clamp down hard amongst the silky strands and lock my face into position directly over his.

“What if I could make it happen that you never had to leave me at dawn, ever again?” he asked.

I only-if smiled and said, “If pigs could fly and cabbages were kings.”

“I saw a pig fly once,” he said. “At university. Catapulted by us college boys across an entire field by means of a rubber sling.”

“And have you seen cabbages wear crowns and sit imperial thrones?” There are things in this universe possible, like flying pigs; there are things impossible, like me ever again experiencing the light of day.

“I’ll tell you what I have seen,” he said, still muscling me firmly atop him, his intense gaze still seriously locked with mine. “A long-forgotten family journal, heavy with dust, and long-gone mealy with neglect, that describes a confrontation between a long-ago ancestor of mine with one of your kind who actually walked the day.”

“Impossible!” I said. “There would have been rumors, legend … something.”

“Before yours was wooden-staked, before his lair and he were put to the flames, his secret was found and saved — his recipe for candle, chocolate wafer, chant, and aromatic scent — Nosferatu Illume — to make his day-walking possible. Will you mix wax, eat chocolate, say the chant, and dab your wrist with scent?”

Had the moment finally arrived, then, when his family’s long and ancient history of killing vampires, not loving us, kicked in; this, his final, fatal trap inherently being laid by him for me? If so, he played this vampire very well, indeed, having loved from me, in the bedroom, in our many torrid embraces, that which I desired, besides him, the very most within my very undead existence.
